Twin gondolas race
The canals of my boyish heart:
Pass each other by, and face
A hair’s breadth apart.
Their paddles break through
Bluing sky. Above painted shoots
And stalwart trees.
I cross them both,
From oar to oar,
As gentle stream turns to a roar.
You sit beneath the sinking sun.
I scramble for your glittering eyes:
Jump from deck to hoping light,
But it fades & fades & fades away
As night gives way to loving day.
Twin gondolas swim,
Pass each other; far apart.
You held the
Paddles to my heart.
