wander down a rainbow

      bridge

puddles pool in star-soaked

            ditch

steer my rowing sailboat

                  which

brings to life my phantom itch

that tap taps the dirtied

      wood

my chewed-through pencil raps the

            bloom-

ing sprawling pictures on class

                  room

desks as pitter patter comes to

                        rest

on iron gutter which rusty crests

to sap sap dripping from

      tree

where rainbow lanes welcome

            me

above a roof of cotton

                  seams

the noon sky where childhood

                        dreams —

my teacher clears her throat and speaks
